Our Ministries

Children
First Baptist Church of Roanoke has a growing Children's ministry led by our Minister to Children, Jimmie Mathews. We are here to create a fun, exciting, and dynamic environment that will help children and their families to come to believe in Jesus as their personal Savior. Our goal is to meet the spiritual needs of the children through partnering with and assisting parents as the primary ministers in the Christian education of their children (see Deuteronomy 6.4-10, Matthew 19.14). We want to help them to live a life of faith and obedience to Jesus and God's Word, the Bible.

The Children's ministry provides a wide variety of activities including:
  • Children's Bible Study (Sunday School) is Sunday at 9:30AM during the Traditional Service
  • Children's Worship/Church is during the Contemporary Service at 10:45AM
  • Summer Camp at Riverbend and/or Camp Copass (grades 3 through 5)
  • Vacation Bible School during the Summer
  • The AWANA program Wednesday nights, 6:30-8:00 PM
  • Other events throughout the year...
AWANA

If you're looking for the premier program to change kids' lives, you've come to the right place! Awana is the leading ministry to help local churches reach children and youth with the gospel and train them to know, love and serve Christ.

Awana blends Bible teaching, Scripture memorization and tons of fun. Your church's Awana ministry will impact kids ages 2 to 18 along with their families and entire communities while helping your church instruct parents, train volunteers and make your children's ministry and youth ministry all that God intends them to be!

The Awana club for kids is built on two premises: 1) Children can and should receive spiritual training, and 2) Home is the primary place for spiritual training. Our program meets these needs through fun - and lots of it! Awana is fun with a purpose - to reach and train kids for Jesus Christ. Games, puppets, crafts, awards and other activities transform our program into a lively weekly experience where fun and learning go hand in hand.

The Awana program is back in swing for the 2009-2010 school year! Click here for this year's theme night calendar!
